You aren’t doomed to a life without plants just because you don’t have a green thumb. There are plenty of sturdy plants that anyone can grow regardless of skill level.
1. Lucky bamboo
Despite the name and appearance, lucky bamboo isn’t actually part of the bamboo family. They are considered good luck, however. They’re quite hardy, and they can survive in artificial indirect light. They can also grow hydroponically, and they’re often sold in beds of pebbles for initial soil support. All you need to do is clean the leaves every few days, change the water each week and wash the plant and roots with water on a monthly basis.
2. Air plants
Air plants are epiphytes, which means that they grow on other plants and take nutrients from the surrounding atmosphere. This means that you don’t even need to water them most of the time. They also don’t require soil to grow. They like bright lights and warm temperatures, so keep them near a sunny window. All you need to do is soak them for 15 minutes once a week and let them dry.
3. Chinese money plants
They’re called money plants due to the large round leaves that resemble coins. They’re also known as the UFO plant or the pilea. They love bright indirect light, and they don’t like their soil too soggy, so keep them dry between watering sessions. After a while, they’ll start growing seedlings in the soil, so you’ll have plenty of these lovely plants to go around in no time.
4. Cast iron plants
They get their name from the fact that they can stand up to a lot of tough treatment. They don’t need much light, and they have wide humidity and temperature tolerances. Since they can grow anywhere, these are perfect plants for commercial spaces. All they require is basic potting soil and weekly watering. About the only way to hurt these plants is to overwater them, so you’ll need to make sure that they thoroughly dry out between watering sessions.
5. Monsteras
Monstera plants are also known as Swiss cheese plants. They can grow in low light, but they prefer bright spots, so keep them in a well-lit room away from direct light. They also require very little watering, and it’s best to water directly into their pots. You’ll only need enough to keep the soil from becoming dehydrated. You should also dust the leaves with a damp cloth monthly.
