You would be forgiven for thinking that the femur bone is a bone-like any other. It is not. The femur is the most fantastic bone in the body for a number of reasons. Read on to find out why.
The femur, or thigh bone, is one of the greatest bones in the human body. The stand out reason, is that it helps you both standout, and up. The femur is the largest bone in the human body and makes up for one-quarter of your height. Despite taking up such a large amount of our body you rarely hear about anyone having a femur fracture. That is because it is incredibly resilient and the strongest bone in the human body. The femur is as tough as concrete.
Yet it is still possible to break and the most reason for broken bones today are car accidents. Sportspeople have been known to break their femur on occasion as well but it would have to be a pretty terrible accident. The most common sport for breaking a femur is either skiing or American football.
The femur is incredibly important to our daily lives as it is a weight-bearing bone. The femur is basically in a constant battle with gravity every day enabling us to stand up as we choose. This is what makes the femur the strongest bone in the body. The more you exercise, the more load you put on your muscles, the more they pull on the femur bone. The more the femur bone is pulled, the denser it becomes.
While we are not saying that anyone should have a favorite bone (that would just be a strange thing to ever bring up, especially on a first date). We are simply saying that if someone was to choose a favorite bone, the femur is a top contender. So, the next time you sing the “hip bones connected to the..” song, make sure you give the thigh bone a little extra volume, it deserves it.
