Any physical ailments, together with general health affect different functions in our lives. Migraines happen to be part of the widespread medical conditions among Americans, and it might be severely ruining your relationship. Although invisible, experts say that Migraine remains a prevalent ailment. It is a disease that can distress your wellness to the extent that it will destroy a relationship. 24% of people who suffer from migraines divulge that the illness had a toll on the sexual relationship. The data is from a Meta-analysis on the Mayo Clinic Proceeding Journal of 2016. A further 5 % of the respondents disclosed the migraines led to their separation or divorce. Half of the migraine patients believe they can become a better love partner without it. Twelve percent of patient spouses share the sentiments.

Migraine is the world’s third most common disease, according to the Migraine Research Foundation’s report. One among four US households has a migraine patient. It affects more women at 18 percent while the percentage in men is a distant six. A further report by the foundation suggests that all migraine symptoms below tell only tell half the condition’s story:
• Nausea and vomiting
• Visual disturbance
• Tingling
• Numbness on the face or other extremities
• Intense sensitivity to light,
• Sense of smell and touch

Another half story of migraines lies in its emotional, physical as well as financial problems. They all reduce the enjoyment of quality life to the point of pushing patients out of romantic relationships. Cynthia Armand, a doctor of medicine, affirms the observation when speaking to the People. “Evidence confirms that family, social and academic life suffer if a person experiences migraines,” says Armand, who is also a Montefiore Medical Center’s neurologist.

How migraines affect mental health

Migraines trigger mental health problems that, with time, break down a relationship. Migraines frequently cause anxiety and depression together with disorienting sleep patterns. Chances of getting into depression are higher by three when a migraine is present. The finding is by King’s Fund, one of the think tanks linked with National Health Services (UK). The American Migraine Foundation observed a similar pattern. According to its data, chronic migraines make 30 to 50% of its victims suffer from anxiety. Around 20% of people with episodic migraines also experience anxiety. Armand further informed People that the sensitivity to noises and light by persons with migraines, together with the likelihood of bad temper, increases tensions that may cause a relationship breakdown.

Absenteeism and financial difficulties

More than 50% of respondents with migraines participating in an Ipsos survey (commissioned by Excedrin) had missed time at work or school the previous three months. Ipsos surveyed 4,000 respondents. Migraine Research Foundation says that migraines cause a loss of 157 workdays per year in the United States. The estimated national cost of healthcare and lost productivity due to migraine issues can rise to $36. The figures increase the financial challenges to the patients and their spouses; especially that money tops the causes of a fight in marriage and a common reason for dissolution. A Ramsey Solutions survey reveals that financial matters are only second to infidelity when you list top grounds for divorce.

Missed events and inability to handle domestic duties

Armand explains that a person with migraines is more likely to miss happy family occasions, suffer from an inability to handle daily responsibilities and take care of other people in a household. The underperformance at home and domestic life might also cause guilt.

How does the invisibility of migraines cause relationship problems?

Armand says, “Migraines make someone to spend much time calling for the attention of the world for it to notice that is something is not right. A doubt about the condition is the last thing that a Migraine patient expects from a loved one.”

Partners and members of the family to a person dealing with migraines should, according to Armand, plan for possible incontinence, learn about the illness and help without grumbling. “You should not display frustration when managing a migraine attack. It requires patience without showing upsets.
